Jianzhou He, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor
Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry & Physics
Dr. He is an Assistant Professor at Georgia Southern University (GSU). He received his Ph.D. in Crop and Soil Sciences - Environmental Toxicology from Michigan State University, and earned a M.S. and B.S. in Environmental Science from University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Sichuan University, respectively. Prior to joining GSU, he conducted postdoctoral training at the University of Arizona and Auburn University. His educational and professional background is in Environmental Chemistry. His research focuses on (1) Methods development in environmental analytical chemistry; (2) Fate, transport, and transformation of conventional (e.g., nutrients and heavy metals) and emerging (e.g., PFAS and microplastics) contaminants in soil, water and plant systems; and (3) Advanced materials (nanosensor) and processes (AOP/ARP) for contaminants detection, quantification, and remediation.

Kendra Ezeanii

Undergraduate Researcher (Oct 2024 - Now)
Major: B.S. in Biology
Honors Thesis Research: Fate and Impact of Environmental Contaminants

Kendra is an Honors second-year undergraduate student at Georgia Southern University, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Applied Vocal Music. Her research interests focus on how environmental issues impact biological systems, particularly concerning human health, immunology, and sustainability. In her free time, she enjoys composing music and spending time in nature.

Genell Drummonds

Undergraduate Researcher (March 2025 - Now)
Major: B.S. in
Biochemistry

Genell is a senior undergraduate majoring in Biochemistry at Georgia Southern University. In her downtime, she enjoys spending time with her family, playing games, watching animes or Asian dramas, reading webtoons or novels on kindle, and DIY-ing random things.

Isabella Sherman

Undergraduate Researcher (Aug 2025 - Now)
Major: B.S. in Chemistry

Isabella Sherman is a junior student at Georgia Southern University. She was born and raised up in Savannah, Georgia. When she started college, her major was economics, but she realized later that it was not the best fit for here. Her current plan is to double majoring in chemistry and foreign language. After graduation, she hopes to attend medical school to pursue passions of being a forensic pathologist. Out of studying, she is usually at the gym or walking outside. Other hobbies include learning foreign languages, cooking, and reading psychological thrillers.
